You might want to read this editorial on fishing with a "fishy sense) and the people who have impressed the editor of A.A.... the second person is Jim T. who now works out of this website's shop.
"...explain his(Jim's) uncanny ability to know what fish are thinking."
This really is a very nice thing said about Jim, and while I only know him to wave to, I would say the writer has Jim well understood.

I think Jim once told me he taught a well-known editor a few tips back a dozen years ago while they were guiding together out in Montana. I think I remember he told me the guy's name was Phil Monaghan. If I'm wrong, I apologize, but Thib is certainly a quiet man, wishing to be unheralded. He has enormous angling, tying prowess, continues to teach to anyone who knows the right questions to ask. And no, I do not think the shop rates will/should go up just because one of us guides gets a write-up, Although truthfully, gas prices being what they are, I wouldn't fight that real hard.

I agree that Jimmy is a man of few words,a positive trait in my book. We've crossed paths for some years, and only in the last few have we spoken.I hope this translates properly, he wreaks of fishing wisdom.A dyed in the wool mainer....
A gentlemen on the water, with etiquette thats always 2 steps ahead.

I haven't seen the write-up, but I can't sing Jim Thibodeau's praises loudly enough. For the past five years, he's come into the school for week after week to help teach my kids to fly fish (thanks Marshall, too) and he's a study in positive, quiet patience with kids at the Alewives Festival, the forays to the Readfield Pond, and the Sportsman's Show. He's wonderful to be around, and as a guide, all I can say is that he guided a friend of ours who has... strong... opinions this fall but who came off the water ready to move to Miane :-)
The trouble is, he doesn't use a computer, so he may never see this. Probably, he'd prefer it that way!

When I first saw this post I thought nice to note but it's to bad Hutch got the magazine wrong. I thought that because I hadn't gotten my copy of American Angler yet but I had gotten my copy of Fly Rod and Reel and Paul Guernsey had mentioned Jim in Paul's Editor's Notes titled "The Good Guys."
But today I got my copy of American Angler and I looked at the Editor's Page by Philip Monahan and sure enough Hutch was right - Phil mentions Jimmy. (sorry Hutch I should have known you were right)
So, that's two of the national magazines currently on the stands right now that selected Jimmy as one of the fields best. Cool! |

I've said this here before, but I can't sing Jim's praises enough. From being the guy who helped me catch my first Shawmut brown to being the one who took a video to prove to FERC that Messalonskee Stream is navigable, to being the first guy (always) to volunteer for a KVTU kids or elders event, to writing the simplest, most common-sense letters on FERC dam permits I've ever seen, to taking the photo that documented sturgeon spawning in Waterville after Edwards Dam came out, Jim is tops.
I meet a lot of anglers, and a lot of them do some pretty special things from time to time, for which they deserve thanks and gratitude. Jim does something special almost every day, and many of us are so used to it we forget to say thank you.
Thank you. |

Jeff, When you look at any post you have made on a thread there are icons at the top of the post.
One of those looks like a piece of paper and a pencil and if you click on that one it will take you to an edit window. Another one looks like a piece of paper and a trashcan and that’s what it is. Click the trashcan and you will get a window asking if you really, really want to delete the post.
You have the same trashcan option when you start a new thread but once someone else has posted on a new thread the person who started the thread can no longer delete the thread.

Jeff, It might be because you aren't logged in. If you look at the top of the page does it say you are logged in? |

Jimmy took Marshall out west and then Marshall showed me where to fish out there and to me thats who Jimmy is, A nice guy that shares his fishing knowledge and wisdom with others for the pleasure of doing so. I was walking behind Jimmy one day and he said, Greg throw your fly there and you will catch a Brown, yup! I did catch a Brown. He is a talented man, everyone speaks well of him, thats talent.
