I know there was a huge discussion on this last year, but I couldn't find it in the archives. What do people think? What are the pro's and cons? I just finished reading about them online but all the info I could find was written by someone trying to sell them. I've fished braided before and thought it was just ok; are furled a lot different? Do they come with loops? Contrary to a ton of others (i did find this topic) i like those braided connectors and loop to loop systems.
And Mike, I assume you sell them??
Anyway, I'm usually one of those dreaded lurkers, but with all this rain, I have to do something.

I think furled are a LOT better than braided. They are best of all with dry flies. Less knots and tangles than mono. Last longer. Turn over more smoothly. The commercial furled made out of mono aren't as good as the ones you make yourself (or Kathy Scott's that Mike has)out of fly-tying thread. Maybe mono is better for nymphing, but not enough better for me to bother switching leaders when I change tactics. Guess what? I'm sold. |
