Shawmut...too high
Madison...too high
Gilead...too high
Brassua...too high
Rapid...gate locked
Any river in Southern Maine...way too high

East Outlet...just right (I was fishing with Goldilocks)

Given the above conditions I expected the number of fishermen at the East Oulet would be...too high. Not so, just a handful of folks. You could fish just about any spot you wanted. The conditions were not perfect, but OK. A bright sun and a brisk wind. The water temperature was 49. No bugs on the water but there were fish in the pools. Picked up 4 fish, all on streamers, and lost a 5th. Saw other fish landed as well.

Looks like another spring of high water and missed opportunities.

Hey Brian,
I can picture your flawless cast on EO. It's tough luck coming back from no water-rain Florida to high water here and watching chocolate-colored swollen rivers. I'll be up there Thursday, though. Tight Lines.

Marshall

There wasn't much flawless casting going on yesterday in that wind. I thought I might try Brassua which was running at 1300 on Saturday but when it got bumped to 1800 on Sunday, the EO was the only option. Hopefully, conditions will improve for you by Thursday. Good luck.

Note to TitleGuy - a short head spey line can really punch through a good wind.

Yes indeed. I found that out the week before. I aslo found out that prolonged single-handed casting and double-hauling of 12' rod may require the caster to have "Tommy John" surgery. My one fish at the dam last week oI got on the spey- yeah you can crank some line right out there.

My limit for single handed spey casting is 11'. I've got 10', 11' and 12' rods. I can cast the 10' and 11' all day long but my wrist shuts down in a hurry on the 12'.

Looking back to yesterday, I picked up fish with streamers on the swing and stripping. It's a good day when you catch a good fish but I don't think there's any more satisfaction in fly fishing than when you pick up a salmon on the swing. The poetry of the swing. The rush of the strike. Watching the fish take to the air. Good, good stuff.

I was chucking the whole line, fishing across the malestrom below the dam and was getting a take almost every cast, but couldn't hook the fish as I had some much slack in my line ( current coming at me and going river left, fish were hanging on the drop left) I finally defaulted to striper technique, put the rod under my arm and started two handed stripping- it worked.
