Out of all the fly fishing gadgets that you have bought, which one is used the least often? For me it was the battery operated mosquito repeller. I first saw them in Cabella's then Van Raymonds had them so I bought one there. It cost me $15.00, the first time I used it around mosquito's the mosquitoes flew closer for a better look at the thing. I bought it for my trip to Osprey Lake Lodge in Labrador, but the mosquitoes didn't begin to hatch till the day we flew out. I tried it a few times in Maine but I didn't think it made any difference. Now I see Jim hides it in the corner of the display case. |

I try to make do with as few gadgets as possible.
I thought a few years ago that a telescoping bug net to snag Mayflies (or, I suppose, Caddis for that matter)out of the air would be useful. Not. It has resided in a back pocket of my chestpack since the day I bought it......and, mostly, I've forgotten about it. Total waste of money.

Ah..Jeff?? If I'm the Dave you meant all of my trout reels (except one) are click & pawl. Hardy's and Abels. Perhaps you meant another Dave?

Sorry Dave.
I thought I remembered a past discussion about the need for a quality drag on trout reels. |

This year -- a net. For 2 reasons: not many fish caught and those caught haven't been lifted out of the water to get the hook out -- using new forceps that have a curved end to help get the hook out easier. Joe |

| I have an old "Ketch'um Release" gadget that looks brand new because I have never used it. Barbless hooks work better. |

I had one of those this summer when I broke my hand and needed to do one handed releases. It worked fairly well, but it came off the vest as soon as the cast came off my hand. |

| Strike indicators. I've gotten in the habbit of using a big stimulator instead. I guess I only keep indicators in there for the rare occasion that I might need one. Other than that...I'm pretty gadget-less. |

I gave up on the electronic mosquito repeller so long ago that I don't even consider it one of my fishing gadgets. I now consider it an electronic wife irritator.
I think my least used gadget is probably an electronic thermometer gizmo with a 30 foot wire probe that it supposed to hang off a boat that I got as a Christmas gift. For all I know it might work great for finding spring holes while float tubing Maine ponds, but since I live in Texas I don't get to do that much. |
